    What's the point of a Take-down bowie?

One of the only really logical arguments I have heard is that when traveling by airline, say to a show, the owner can take apart the knife and bring the handle and fittings in their carry on and only have to leave the blade in the luggage, where it could be damaged, stolen or lost. Often in very...

forge welding stainless steel, Please advise!

You will have to anneal the stock after forging. I forged a san mia guard from 416 and 1084 to match a blade and it broke endmills like crazy trying to cut the guard slot. I dont think it would be fun to engrave without a proper anneal.

    Edge Pro

It works great. I got one before I started making knives and used it for all my factory knives. It makes a very sharp edge and is pretty easy to get the hang of. However, if you have a belt grinder with various belts you can do everything the edge pro does and more, including convex edges.

ABS New England Hammer-In. Anyone going?

You do not have to be an ABS member to attend. I am planning on being there. Last year I went for a day and a half and learned techniques, tips and tricks to greatly increase my learning curve. It is worth attending for that alone, however the best part it that is was a great time.

    Kitchen knives you have built

Here is a damascus chef knife I finished last night. It is made from my second billet of damascus steel. It started out as a dog star pattern but that was distorted because I had to do more forging than anticipated to get the profile.

    Grinding push stick

I use 3/8 wooden dowels. I grind a taper on one end and a step on the other. the tapered end is for putting pressure when needed and the notched end is to hold the bottom of the blade. Using the dowels you can grind them however you want in a few seconds.
