    Cut off disc for profiling blanks?

    Lots of folks use cut off discs. You are correct about the possibility of "work" hardening occurring, but it will not effect it to any great degree. Another option would be to purchase stock that is "just right" for your template and grind off the excess metal with a worn 36 grit belt.

    Jim, I too use a 20 lpi file, but sometimes that just ain't enough. I also use a cut of wheel to nothc the spine and then finish them off with a chainsaw file. ATTACH=CONFIG]33103[/ATTACH]

    knife finish question

    Black oxide is another good method. I got mine through Caswell and it works just fine. It is similar to bluing a knife in that it is a chemical reaction rather than a coating. It too is easy to touch up. Curtis

    It is very durable. I coat my knives myself and with this type of finish, I apply it with an airbrush and then bake it on.
