Mine is to stay focused on building and actually completing my knives, and keep it simple to a handful of designs... I have a problem the short time I've been making to grind out all sorts of different designs and never completing anything, lose interest in the design and move to another...

cdh thanks for the pic.. that's almost as cool as mine.... :D which btw, is a transformer like that from a cell phone charger with alligator clips on the end..... It works and etches deep but I need to come up with something else eventually, but I like free... whenever I can get it.. :)

where can you pick up Parks 50?? what are the specs to quench in water?

I've only done a handful of fixed blades as it is.. and would love to learn the 'whole' process in a slip joint that would be awesome... !! of course within the allotted time :D

My shop is in the same order more or less, very depressed state for sure.. nice knife, and that is one quick turnaround time !!!!!!!

that's Aldos steel I'm using.. I will update my findings when I bring the rest of the blades in to be tested and see how the rest of the blades fare in hardness....

10 mins isn't to long?? I think I only went 5 on this one.. I'll do that with a scrap piece and see how it goes to get this dialed in, I have a slew of it so I'm stuck with 1095 for a long time...

I used a thermometer and I'm really hoping this is the case, I've only quenched up to 4 blades at a time with no issues... after the last blade I was moving my tank and pulled out the thermometer it read 150*:what!: I wasn't paying attention to the temp as I wanted the blades out asap.. got...

Hi Doug thanks for responding so quickly.. I was quenching in canola oil at 130* within the second, quench is right under kiln.. The local HT guy has some quench he'd let me try out a couple gallons for free, I'll have to ask the specs on it and see if its a fast quench.. they mainly do 01...

Heat Treat FAIL !!!! *Update* couple questions for you guys.. first off steel is 1095 and I just got a 50 RC test off one of 6 blades I HT'd yesterday.. I tempered at 400 2x2 What do I need to do in order to re heat treat the blade.. ?? must I anneal it or can I simply retreat...

I will bring several heads in different weight if there's time and it generates enough interest maybe we can have a hawk hour or two :D

how about forging a hawk out of a ballpeen hammer??
