One down four more to go! This is taking longer then I hoped but they are slowly getting done. This one has stabilized flame cottonwood. It was stabilized by Jon Kennedy here on the forum. Pretty good stuff.

Thanks man, I can't wait to see them finished as well lol. I have four of the handles glued up now. I just have to wait for them to dry to glue up the fifth. I ran out of clamps.

    WIP For five hunters

Got some more work done! I cleaned up all the knives and etched them. Four of them turned out fairly well but I had to re harden one of them. The one that I re hardened isn't going to get etched because the hamon goes from the guard to the spine in a 45 degree angle and looks funny. Next time...

Thanks Chris, I had to make that forge for heat treating a big chopper I made. It works very well and only cost me about $20 to make. I just finished re heat treating the knife that failed on me so now it's time to finish sanding them and install the handles :)

    WIP For five hunters

Thanks Jon, I have to re heat treat one of them and then the fun starts. Sanding, sanding and more sanding lol. The hamons didn't turn out very good so I think I will just do a satin finish on these ones.

    WIP For five hunters

Well they are all hardened. I am working on tempering them right now. I did one cycle at 400 for two hours so far. I'm always so nervous when I'm heat treating a knife especially when I'm trying something new. The refractory cement stayed on the knives through the whole process and was very easy...

All ready for heat treat! I've never done a coated differential heat treat so I am a little bit nervous about this.

    Knife No.13#

Looks good man, the only think I might consider changing would be the addition of another pin closer to the ricasso. Thats where most of the stress is going to be. Other then that your work is really clean and well executed.

    What's your favorite handle material?

So far my favorite materials are micarta and cocobolo. There's just something about cocobolo that draws me to it.

    A batch of Damascus kiridashi

Ahh ok that makes sense. I think having one of them would be very handy around the house and for leather work.
