    Brazilian Rosewood Chef's Knife

Beautiful knife. I am interested in how the handle is attached. Care to explain it to someone who has never made a kitchen knife. I am guessing the tang has some notches in it and epoxy is used. Bill

    Band Saw

I have a Wellsaw W-20 and IMO it is one of the best metal cutting band saws around. It is American made, has a built in blade welder so that you can buy bulk blade material and make your own blades and has a dead flat, tilting cast iron table. Using one of the bigger saws really makes things a...

So why not spin ther pins?

Calvin, did I say in my last post I bought a pin spinner? I meant to say a friend of mine bought one! I will continue to peen my pins with my bare knuckles, as always. Bill

    Grizzly GO622 4x6 band saw

My harbor freight model is 15 years old or so and still going strong. Clamp a home made seat in the vise, take a seat and get to cutting. Bill

So why not spin ther pins?

Since I am new at this myself, I have done a lot of looking and pondering on how to do things. I have seen quite a few with heads that have been spun. I think some of K.R. Johnson's have spun heads. I think there may be something on it in one of his tutorials. It looks like when using stag...

    Us slipjoint makers are nuts!

Amazing knife, Calvin. I bet with those dimensions, it would be a pleasure to carry. I see absolutely no signs of the abuse you alleged in your first post, by the way.:3: Bill

    Zebrawood?

I have some from back when I thought I wanted to build traditional bows. If I remember right, it might be a little soft for knife handles. Mine might have come from a pudgy zebra. You just never know these things.:3: Let me know how it turns out. Bill

    Us slipjoint makers are nuts!

Bruce, I would be willing to bet the stuff in your trash box looks better than most of our "best yets"!! If you ever need anyone to take out the "trash" at the shop just let me know. Bill

    I need some help please.

Here is where I got mine. I contacted them and was able to get a stamp with condensed font so that I could get all 10 letters of my last name in under 1/2 inch for folder blades. The price is right, the stamp is great and I got it within a week. If you don't find exactly what you want contact...

    3rd knife completed

Good job on your 3rd knife. My critique is as follows: 1) Where is your makers mark? You have to put your name on it! 2) I always want to know where people are from and you don't have it showing on your profile. Glad you decided to take the plunge and join the rest of us in this mad pursuit...

    Us slipjoint makers are nuts!

And I have to aim for a spot somewhere on the scale to have any chance at all of hitting the pin!

How to make the Caswell Finish smell go away ?

Try some of the scent elimination spray or soap used by bow hunters. It's worth a shot. I have used some on various things it wasn't intended for. It may not totally eliminate the smell but it might help. Bill

    Is it cheating?

A band saw is a valuable tool indeed. I was lucky enough to find a 20" Wellsaw in the Thrifty Nickel back when I lived in Lubbock, TX. It belonged to knife maker Enidino Deleon. I got it for a song and it has been a wonderful tool. I use it for everything. However, before purchasing it I had...

    Second Knife

Roger, that is a fine looking knife for knife number 2 or knife number 200! Great work. Laurence, I think there must be something in the water up there. Whatever it is I wish I had some of it. Bill

    WIP first knife

I did my first few with a Lansky to get the initial bevel set and then finished on a paper wheel on a buffer. It took a little while with the Lansky, but it wasn't that bad. I can't seem to rig up anything to keep the Lansky clamps from scratching the blade though. Regardless of what I came...

I made it into Blade Magazine!

That is great, Steven. It is well deserved recognition, in my opinion. I bet you are on cloud nine. Bill

    WIP first knife

You are doing one heck of a job on your first knife. The only problem I see so far is that you are not leaving yourself much room for improvement on the next one!:3: I'm with Mikey D, I can't wait to see it all done. Bill
