    Stitcher help please?

Ask the current owner if it will stitch 1/2" of leather. If he says yes get a short video of the machine doing it. Technology is great if you use it. Everybody but me has an Iphone so it shouldn't be a problem!

    First "build" of sorts.

Looks like you did a great job on it. Careful though, you will get hooked and start buying all kinds of "must have" equipment. If that was bargain bin wood, I would go back and get some more! Hopefully it is a big bin.

    Question about mill cleaning/lubrication?

Thanks guys. I gave it a good scrub with mineral spirits and wiped it down with a light coat of Mobil1 until I can find the high pressure way lube. It is pretty slick now, but I may go over the table with some fine steel wool like suggested just to clean up a few spots with some discoloration.

    Question about mill cleaning/lubrication?

I purchased a Shoptask combo mill/drill/lathe about 10 years ago and never used it. It has been in storage for about 7 or 8 years. When I stored it I coated the ways with what I thought was grease that came with it. Well after closer inspection it is some kind of cutting lubricant that had...

    Makers stamp.

Just got my first makers stamp to stamp my blades. I thought it was a bargain at $105.00. I have FITZGERALD as a last name but was able to get it down to only 3/8" in width which was something I was really worried about. I am not affiliated with the maker in any way, just thought I would share...

    Some Recent Fixed Blades

They are all great looking knives. The fit and finish on them is awesome. My favorite is the 3rd one, but I bet you could have guessed that.

    hello all

Welcome. This place is really amazing. If you want to learn, the information is here and the members are very helpful. If you are a tattoo artist, you must have a steady hand. That should come in handy grinding!

    Grizzly 10" contact wheel?

Thanks Rudy, that is what I needed to hear. However, after my first couple of attempts at hollow grinding a blade, I think I may hold off on buying another wheel right away. I may have to take up quilting or stamp collecting! They were atrocious. More facets than the hope diamond.

    Grizzly 10" contact wheel?

I just got my KMG variable speed grinder set up last night. I bought the 8" and thought I would make a spare arm and mount a 10" wheel from Grizzly on it. The Grizzly wheel doesn't appear to have a bearing in it. Are people that are using these wheels boring out the hole and pressing in a...

Hydraulic Punch Press. Any possible uses?

I have about a 25 ton Toledo OBI punch press sitting in a shop that I have to clean out. I have tried to sell it, with no luck, and before I sell it for scrap iron I thought I would ask if it can be used or adapted for use in any way for knife making. There are also several #2 wash tubs full...

help ! soldering 416 stainless guard to 154cm

I was having the same problem. Bruce Bump replied to my post and suggested I "tin" the parts first. Then lightly clamp together and heat. It worked like a charm for me. I also use a Smith oxy/acetylene jewelers torch. They are really handy little torches.

    Hello from Texas

I am in Huntsville, so I won't be far from you once you get to Magnolia. I won't be much help answering questions, since I am new at this myself, but we could get together and show each other things we screwed up on. I finished my first folder (single blade slipjoint) the other day, so I would...

Can you clamp to tight for soldering?

With solder on both parts how do you accurately place and clamp? Just wipe most of it off so it is an extremely thin film on each? I just found this site a couple of weeks ago and not only am I well on my way to completing my first folder, but I have gotten tips from Bruce Bump and Don...

    Will this work?

Well I am glad Don is trying to help me. He is to blame for all of this madness. I looked at his tutorials about 2 weeks ago on another knife site and all fo the photos of the beautiful folders he has made and I just had to try it myself. I already see how addicting this can be. I am...

Can you clamp to tight for soldering?

I had one of the spring clamps your talking about and removed the end protectors and even ground the jaws down real narrow and re-shaped them a bit. Then for some unknown reason I decided to use the vise grips! I think I will practice a bit more on some scrap and try to break the joints loose...

    Will this work?

I am sorry I wasn't clear enough about what I was thinking off. I was going to drill holes in the liners only and lay the bolsters on top and in position and clamp them. Then I was going to flip it over and weld up the hole in the liner and in doing so I would create a small weld to the back...
