That's some nice, clean work. I don't think my fifth knife looked anywhere near that good!

    Good place to buy steel?

Pop's, Tru-Grit, and USA Knifemakers Supply are all good sources for steel. Precision ground has had the scale removed and, as the name would suggest, is ground to precise thickness. However, it isn't finely finished - there will be a lot of deep grinding marks to remove. I don't think it's...

I'm a locksmith, but business is so bad I'm down to working half days... twelve hours instead of twenty-four!

    Removing Mill Scale

I always grind a hollow in the handle (whether I'm tapering the tang or not) and pre-hollow grind the blade before I grind the flats, so there's not that much flat to worry about. Of course, this could be because I cannot stand the smell of vinegar...

checkering file: is it worth the $?

I've been using mine for years, and I don't even remember what I paid for it. But every time I use it, I'm reminded of how quickly it works compared to a needle file, and what else I can get accomplished with the time I've saved.

    Tapered Tang question

Essentially the same method here, though I use a v-block with one leg ground shorter than the other rather than a wood block.

    Nighthawk

Hello everyone. I posted this in my forum, but I though it couldn't hurt to post it here as well... Here's the prototype for a smaller version of my Nigththawk folder. Scales are red G-10, slotted to reveal the blue anodized titanium liners. Blade is CPM154. Features .020 phosphor bronze...

    black epoxy?

I've used both the colorant from K and G supply and model airplane paint. Both worked fine, and in both cases a little went a VERY long way.

    Lost private message!

I got an e-mail saying I had a private message, but when I clicked on it it wasn't there... then I went back to my inbox and the e-mail had disappeared! A Twilight Zone episode, or just computer illiteracy on my part? Probably the latter, but if you have tried to contact me and I haven't...
