    Leather Experts, Here!

A friend if mine gave me a big peice of Latigo leather 7 or 8 oz. It is beautiful, but can it be formed like you can with veg tanned leather? I sure would love to use it for sheaths. Thanks, Duncan

    Etching Problem

Hi KnifeDogs, I am having a problem etching my mark. I have the personalizer etcher it only has etch (DC) and Mark (AC) modes. When I use etch mode to get a bit of depth to my etch, and then switch it to mark mode, the black oxides tend to wash out of the etch. If I use mark mode only I get...

    Some questions on Etching names/logos

I have the Personalizer. I get my best looking etch if I use the mark setting only. Do you folks think an etch like such will hold up being so shallow? Thanks for your thoughts. D

Knife #8 WIP - For the Lamb Boys

I say leave them. I don't think it would bother many people. If you try to drill them out there is a good chance you will be re-doing the finger guard as well. I think it looks great! D

    Moose bone, micarta, O1

Hello knifedogs, I have completed another knife. I figured I'd show it to you and see what you think. I really value your thoughts. I made the knife for my wife. It was a bit of an exercise in handle making for someone other than me. The handle is black canvas micarta with bone from last...

Personalizer or Personalizer Plus Electro Etcher?

Now I know why nobody has replied. I just found this exact question here on the site. Sorry for the repeat. If you have anything to add I'd still love to hear what you have to say. Thanks, D

Personalizer or Personalizer Plus Electro Etcher?

Hello Knifedogs, I am interested in getting a electro etching unit. Tracy sells both these units. In your opinion, do I need variable voltage control offered by the Plus? I will ultimately buy a good unit, but if I don't need the control I'd like to save money for materials. The only thing I...

    Hi from the Yukon

I love the walnut to. I used Danish Oil. I quickly put as many coats as I could a day or two before the moose hunt and called it good. I didn't find it slippery, but the oil really isn't enough to properly preserve the wood.

    My fourth knife

You guys are all too kind. Thanks! As far as the ricasso goes, Bob Loveless [I]How to Make Knives[I]. I haven't had too many personal influences besides what I have read, seen in a video, or seen right here. My local maker, George Roberts, is quite good, but I have only talked with him once...

    My fourth knife

Hi, this is my fourth knife. I am new to posting photos here, but I know the only way to get better is to study knives and recieve feedback from those with experience. Thanks for taking the time to look at my knife. This on is 3/16 O1 tapered on both ends. The bolster and pins are brass. The...

    Hi from the Yukon

OK, here is knife #2 in walnut and O1 and knife #3 in G-10 and O1. I took knife 2 on the moose hunt and got to use it on two moose. What joy to skin moose with a knife you made yourself! Thanks for the warm welcome, D

    Hi from the Yukon

Hi, I am Duncan Tipton. I am a machinist and live in the Yukon Territory of Canada. I am a new knifemaker. It all started with an obsession for learning to sharpen a knife, now I make them. Each fall I get to use them (I hope) on the moose hunt. This year I took my second knife, made of O1 and...
