Doug, I have a couple of 52100 (Aldo's) blades profiled and ready to start grinding. For the HT, I am planning on heating in the forge to non magnetic, then edge quenching in olive oil. Then oven draw back. What temp for the oven draw back? Any words of advice?

What is the purpose of the WD40? To bring out the contrast in the layers of the micarta?

Just curious, did you count the number of forward passes with the file to keep a consistent depth for each groove, or just eyeball it? I'm assuming you measured and laid out where each groove should be.

The farther apart the pillow blocks are, the more stable the drive shaft will be and the less chance of there being any vibration at high speed due to the shaft, key stock or pulleys being slightly out of balance. (out of balance like a car tire and wheel might be)....if there is any...

Well Ernie, I've made a few box knot style you can see one of them on my 2nd knife post in the New to Knife Making section....one question...what in the world do you do with all the strands that you pull out of the middle?.....you surely don't throw them away do you?...seems like a waste....but...

Thanks for the kind words guys. Rodney, its an accelerated rusting process that my mentor and I have been tinkering with trying to get the right blend of chemicals. The goldish color on the blade is just heat color from the oven draw back.
