    Milling machine or surface grinder

I don't have room for a dedicated SG so the attachment is my only choice.

    Milling machine or surface grinder

I'm at the very same point. I'm gonna get the SG attachment first because I can make a user grade folder without a mill but like you said an SG is really important for keeping everything flat and parallel. I will eventually have both though. I just thought of another factor. The SG attachment...

Christmas KITH Questions, PICS & Updates

Thanks for the kind words guys. Matt-Sometimes you can put the blade and guard in a vise and hit the vise with a hammer as you tighten it. This allows you to squeeze the guard together to close the slot. You'll have to re-finish the guard but it will save the time and trouble of making a new...

Ok, here is my entry. It is 1/8" AEB-L @ 62 RC with a full flat grind and a 600X hand rubbed finish. The blade is 2 & 5/8" from tip to bolsters and is 1 & 3/16" wide @ the Ricasso. Anyone using the HF 18 LB vibratory tumbler??

I've never used one but have been thinking about getting one. I have one question. If you do small to medium sized full tang blades would the abrasive round the tangs enough to cause problems when fitting the handle scales?

    Mammoth tooth inconsistency.

I'm with Ed, I hate using it because it is a pain to work. I highly recommend epoxying it to G-10 liners and then flooding the faces with CA BEFORE doing any cutting, drilling, grinding, ETC..

    Mammoth tooth inconsistency.

The proper term is cyanoacrylate. Its just a fancy name for super glue. I would demand my money back if I got something like that.

    1095 heat treat?

The original cash outlay of 5 gallons of P-50 is about 2x more than 5 gallons of Canola but when you consider that P-50 will last 5-6 years vs. 1-2 for Canola, P-50 is actually CHEAPER than Canola. Either way, the cost per blade is so low, that any serious maker should use the best oil available...

Questions on cutting metal by hand

You may wanna check into having them cut by a waterjet. It probably wont be as much as you think. I'm thinking $3-$5 per piece and they will be able to get many more out of the same piece of steel. Just a thought.
