    Knifemaker

Well, I was born in 1966, but I do understand MOST of what is being discussed... Thanks for the service! Dad was over there some place, but won't talk much about it. I'm proud to be associated with you folks! Now, about being a knife maker... The pic LOOKS like a knife, I'm sure it SMELLS...

    Not to good to ask

2000 grit will about get a mirror finish from what I have seen, and I have the same question as Raymond; what grade are you buffing with? Also, can you get pics of what you are talking about? Charlie

    Modeling foam

Now that would be something to see! Since our shop only makes the raw foam I have NO IDEA how it would machine, but I have had a great time modeling not only handles, but blades as well.... I only use paper and rasps, but it works! Lets see what you can do when you find that spare time...

    Need some imput

Since MOST of what I have made in my time has been from "recycled" steel and O1, I really can't be of much assistance, but I AM looking forward to some progress pics! I too like your work. Charlie

    knife #2

The knife looks wonderful as a user in the kitchen! SO many of the kitchen knives sold as a chef type knife these days have a handle that is inline with the spine of the knife. Yours has the ergonomic style that a lot of the commercial makers need to take into consideration. I can see a LOT...

    My first two knives

Both are great, but #2 looks like a great EDC with that type of blade and handle configuration. Charlie

    Second knife (kind of) complete

Looks like a great EDC, but would be a great knife to have on my side during deer season as well. I can SO see that critter separating a hide from meat... I too like the wood, but the overall shape trips my trigger... Charlie

Anyone need KAOWOOL in the DFW area?

One of my hobbies is building and using BBQ smokers. During my latest build I ended up with a box of 24" x 1" KAOWOOL. I have used all I need of it and was wondering if anyone local to me needed it for a small forge or oven. Drop me a line if you are interested. edit: forgot to mention it...

    Rosewood burl Hunter

Beautiful piece of work. I like the way the bolsters look on the blade, the curvature is great IMO! Charlie

    The addiction is BACK!

Back in HS and even early college I would often pass up dates so that I could play in the shop making something. Knives were a passion of mine back then and more than one lass was heartbroken over a broken date. It seemed there was always something that needed to be done to a blade! Well...

Make sure you place them close to bedrooms so that they may be heard during sleeping hours and you should be good to go! Charlie

    dizzy while forging

ANYONE that has anything other than electric heat should get CO detectors for the home. Even a brand new heating unit can emit CO if the combustion is incorrect. The ones that I use in my home, and we recommend to the folks at work, are the type that do in fact look like the normal smoke...

    dizzy while forging

Keep in mind that CO is lighter than air and will rise towards the top of the shop, room, whatever. When you are at the store trying to figure out which detector you want look for one that can mount up higher than where you breath. A LOT of manufacturers have CO detectors that can plug...

    Micarta sheath

I figured it would be like making one from wood, but figured I'd ask. I appreciate the feedback thus far. It will be a few weeks before I can get to it with all of the other life matters and projects going on, but I'll post it when I do. Charlie

    Micarta sheath

Ok folks, I have searched until I am blue in the face and have not found anything about this... A co-worker wants a fillet knife with Micarta scales AND a Micarta sheath... His quote was, "I know you can do it I've seen how you make other things...". So, have any of you tried it? I'm...

    Modeling foam

About the same stuff Clancy, this foam is PVC, but works just as well as the urethane stuff does. Here are some pics of a block of the foam and a handle I carved out in about 5 minutes. The handle prototype is for a friend at work who wants a chopper for camp. A little sanding...

    Modeling foam

The plan I have for getting the pieces I want is in 4"x4"x14" blocks (standard trim scrap off of the main process). The cost would be the same as what I pay...Nothing if it's picked up... Cost to ship otherwise. Charlie
