    Caper Scandi

Thank you all very much for the compliments. Your kind words are greatly appreciated! Curtis - I'm actually an extraordinarily accomplished photographer with skills way beyond those of most. It has taken me decades to perfect the technique of photographic camouflage. Indeed, the fact that you...

    Pentacryl wood stabilizer

Diver - Pentacryl treatment does not produce a product like (resin) stabilized wood. This product is used to treat green wood to prevent cracking/checking when freshly cut. The irony is that once Pentacryl has been used, the wood cannot be stabilized with resin(like WSSI does).

    Caper Scandi

Here's the latest: "Caper" is how us local yocals here refer to ourselves. "Scandi".... well I'm sure you all know this one! So..... I decided to have a go at my version of a Scandi knife with a bit of Cape Breton influence. This is my first attempt at a traditional scandi sheath with a...

    Sami Sheaths

I've been searching, fruitlessly, for a tutorial on how these sheaths are made. I'm particularly interested in the process of how the inside cavity for the blade is shaped. Any thoughts, links, or such would be greatly appreciated.

    Good ways to finish Bubinga?

I've done a fiar bit of bubinga, knives and other stuff. Lovely wood and it takes a great finish. After sanding to 600, I use several liberal coats tung oil(polymerized or straight), wipe well, let dry, buff with Tripoli and White diamond, then finish with a carnuaba wax buff. You may fine a...

    Other Hobbies

Les - Thank you! No. I've never done a paddle, or anything else, in Koa. Its gorgeous wood, but never worked with it. What other woods are comparable in weight, flexibility, "carve-ability", etc?

    Bolster Removal

A client has sent me two camp-kitchen knife blades to which he wants handles and "sheaths" made. I have been given "free reign" on design and materials. To my surprise, both knives arrived with bolster attached, ground and polished. While the bolsters wouldn't look to bad if done a bit better...

    I'm In!!

Today I set up a display of four knives on two small shelves of a locking glass case. I will be given a whole case(4-5 shelves) on Friday when I can add two or three more to the selection. I have four more on the bench now and then I'm out of steel. So I hope I can sell one fairly soon!:o
