    knife sheath glue?

Chuck - I think you just answered my question of what to use to glue down suede or buckskin linings to the welt and outer leathers. I've been using plain ole' hardware store variety contact cement and found the liner gets to stiff and misshapen before I have time to stretch it over and in place...

    Storm Surge!

Just returned from a short photo shoot. We have just endured a rather fine storm that battered the Atlantic coast with 60-100 mph winds, heavy snow and rain, and VERY high tides. Thought I'd share what I saw. I think to really appreciate how high these tides have been would require living...

    OFFICIAL FIRST KNIFE PICTURE THREAD...

Here's my first attempts. The one on the right is my first and was made from an old lawnmower blade, Cholla cactus, moose antler and Walnut. My second one, on the left, has a blade that was forged for me by a local blacksmith from what he described as "Sweedish Sandvik steel". It sports a...

    Highlands Hunter (w/ sheath)

Just finished. I had to do a bit of last minute blade touch up to remove an errant scratch, but it turned out fine (the Mobile 1 oil trick really does work!!). This is the last of 7 knives I'll be submitting on Monday to an art/craft gallery jury for an admission appraisal. I'm quite happy...

    Its kinda' breezy up here

Indian George - I can spit into the Atlantic from my house! I live on the very tip of a thin peninsula that separates the Atlantic and Louisbourg harbor. This peninsula is actually the farthest east point of land on the continent with the exception of eastern Newfoundland. Our weather here in...

    Heat coloring steel??

This is a bit Off Topic, but it is vaguely related to knife making. I have a woodworker friend who is designing a small chest of drawers to include curved steel legs made from rod stock. He wants to "color" the steel using heat.... deep blue is what he's after. Is this possible? What type of...

    Dagnabbit!!

Stabber, Frank - I just went back and re-read that entire post and I have to say, I think its worth a try as well. I have a "practice blade" for this sort of thing that I'll have a go with first before I do the good knife blade. I'll show the results when done.

    Dagnabbit!!

Thank you for the tips guys. Frank - I've read a bit of a conversation you were part of concerning the use of Mobile 1 oil. Is it only Mobile 1 oil, or does any (motor) oil work? I'm psyching myself up to do this tomorrow. Yes, I need to psych myself up for this because I'm just not very...

    Two of Four(non-Borg lineage)

Here's two of the four I've been working on. I only have time for some crappy photos before we head out on a weekend-long road trip. I hope they are clear enough. I'll get some better shots when I return. Thanks for gazing. Comments and soul-destroying criticism are all welcome. Birch...

Dying Antler, What do you use?

Hellgap's experience is typical of the rather spectacular reaction PP can create when combined with other materials. The classic emergency fire starter of PP and glycerin burns hot enough to light anything on fire. Yes, as Hellgap advises, be careful with this stuff.

    Up or Down?

I'm in the final stages of building this 7 3/4 in bladed bowie. The mental image I have has a shaped/sculpted brass butt plate and a barrel nut on the end of the hidden tang. The plate has not yet been fully shaped with some "ovalizing" still to do. Originally, I had the plate "up" with the...
