    Yet another Grinder Question

The sheer number of times this question has been asked on knife forums would sink a battleship.... I'm sure of that. However, because I've never asked one, its now my turn to add additional ballast to the topic. I'm about to hit the "Buy" button on a new grinder and retire my well-worn 1x30...

    Some of my recent work

Thank you all for your gracious comments. Gahagan - If you're referring to the shots of my Kukri/machete, they were taken on our farm on the shore of the Northumberland Straight outside of Pictou, Nova Scotia. Every storm brings a new load of poles washed up on the beach. We've had 25foot...

    Some of my recent work

Stew, Gary - Thank you for the compliments. Stew - I'd be worried if this loop was part of a large chopper, or other design where it may be subjected to considerably greater stress than on this piece. I think on a hunter like this a lanyard loop is more decorative then functional and wouldn't...

    My sheaths

Here's a bit of my recently completed sheaths in no particular order. Although I've been exploring the use of wood as a sheath material lately, I also like using leather in a more traditional way. Thanks for looking: [/URL]

    O1 steel questions

Thanks for all the help guys. Is it important that I keep the blades raised off the floor of the oven? I see racks/holders sold by Evenheat for this purpose, but I've also seen photos of blades placed flat on the floor of forges prior to quenching. edit to add: I imagine its quite important.

    O1 steel questions

Nathan - The College has some VERY thick foil that I was told was for heat treating, but my instructor friend did not know how to use it. Does this foil serve the same function as your pipe-baffle set-up?. And.... thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions. I just visited your...

    O1 steel questions

Denton, James, Nathan and Shane - Thanks for the advice. That's what was hoping for. It seems there is some agreement that my process is a bit lacking. As for my oven temp.... I was following the info on a chart in the Mech. Eng. building at the College. After about 15-20 min at that...

    O1 steel questions

I'm a hobby maker with about 20, or so, knives made so far all using O1 steel(some of my work....http://knifedogs.com/showthread.php?t=3466) . While I believe my heat treat/temper process has been adequately producing usable knife blades, I don't know that to be the case. Because my wife...
