    Is there any certain style of knife, blade material, handle material etc that auctomaically makes you go :eek::eek::eek: Im a sucker for desert ironwood, gets me every time.. Im also a sucker for a nice bowie and wrought iron furniture on a knife.. What about you??

    1084, amboya burl user...

    Well heres a blacksmith playing at being a bladesmith(its easy to tell:D). Nothing fancy, just 1084 with a hamon and amboyna burl..Kind of a satin working finish with stainless pins.

    We have been having a heck of a time finding decent ironwood lately. Even ebay prices has gone thru the roof and most of its mediocore at best. Are the sources and/or proccesing of ironwood drying up :confused: Whats the deal?

    we have been using peanut oil for some time and have been satisifed for the most part but we use a lot of 1095 and was wondering if any of the "grocery store oils" is any faster than peanut oil? Canola oil, Corn oil ect...?

    Dont get me wrong,they wont..BUT they are pain to remove large ammounts of material with :D:D:D I thought I might try drilling a series oh holes and then just remove a small ammount of material with the mill. Then clean up with files..I hate not having access to machinery like I use too:mad:

    We use Aqua Fortis but I have used muriatic acis and homemade vinegar/steel wool mix. Chromic acid works but is caustic as heck and can turn the wood green after ten years or so.. Track of the Wolfs Aqua Fortis is good and so is Wahkon Bay. The Wahkon bay is a bit "hotter" and needs less...

    NC Forge Question

    Yea, the flux :rolleyes: Ive replaced Lisa's forge lining once and the floor needs it now. To much welding done in it other than billets so it needs a floor. A vertical forge wouldent help us. At least with coal you can just scrap out the clinker and get back at it.:D
