    hello fellas, i built a small micro neck knife for myself....it is 1/8 thick D-2 steel @ 59/60 r/c. the scales are blue carbon fiber. i still have to make a kydex sheath. peace, randy.

    ever since i build my first knife and gave to my brother for christmas, my other brother has been wantin one also!! i just got done building him one. i used the same materials as the first...d-2 steel 59r/c spalted maple wood, silver nickel bolster and pins. it came out as good as the first one...

    jd, the cnc is to light to be used for cutting steel......it is used for cutting foam, balsa wood, and other soft materials. i got it for doing my r/c plane hobby. i just used the cnc with a scribe, just to layout the profile. also this is my first build....im very much a newb....randy.

    a company that sells the cnc kit i built, sells the sketch up turtorial cd also. i draw up my designs then ether print them out, or actually use the code to scribe the metal on the cnc. it is very easy to use sketch-up. here is one i did. randy...

    no problem trust.....even though I'm new to knife making, i have been in tool and die for over 30 years, and have lots of experence with heat treat, lols. good luck with your build. randy.

    also round any sharp corners on the blade, including the holes.....any sharp corner or edge, as sharp corners in any metal getting a HT process will produce stress risers, and may initialize a crack. randy.

    i am rather new to the knife building....but on my first knife i took down to about .020 and rounded it a bit with some 320 grit. the heat treat was commercially done, and the blade is D2 at 59r/c. everything was good. randy.

    thanks fellas, your to kind....as of now ther is 3 coats of tung oil on the handle. i am trying to research "wood finishing" as i do not know anything about it. do i use a sealer of some sort? or does the tung oil seal it. thanks for any input. randy.

    kydex folder sheath...

    a fella at work was wanting a sheath for his folder....i made him a kydex holster for his belt. it knife fits and snaps into it very nicely and securely. he uses it for hunting, and he says its more comfortable to carry when afield. peace, randy.
