I made my own,Very easy to do They are made of 2" hardwood. One 8" and One 10". I use Spray on contact cement and stick wet and dry on them. They seam to work OK for me and didn't cost a bunch

I use 416ss and drill thru and use pin press i made(20 ton) and silver solder front edge.

I personally don't think that there is an Ideal blade length. It all depends on what your customer wants. I have made Guthooks with 2" blades all the way up to 7 1/2" I have even made Minitures
