You actually want an anvil that has a good bounce. If it doesn't rebound the hammer well then it absorbs the energy instead of reflecting it bact into the work. Doug

Definitely do not grind the face smooth. If you do you may grind away too much of the hardened face and destroy what rebound it has left. I would leave it as is. Doug

The one that I have has the plank running at right angles to the one shown so that it rests under your thighs. Looks lake both models will get the job one. Doug
