Tramsfering holes from a liner to a scale

That's a very good way to drill a precise hole. I'd also be curious to see how you do your lock-up. Getting the blade to mate with the lock bar is driving me nuts. Maybe you could post some pictures of how you do it.

    O1 Chopper

Beautiful job on that one. I'd be real proud if it was hanging on my hip.

    30, water jet knifes

I have been told that the large old circular buzz saw blades were often, but not always, L6. I can't help you with the testing though. Perhaps you could heat treat one as if it were L6 and test it to see how it performs.

New Years 2015 knifemaking resolutions - the official thread

Well, I have 3 resolutions for the New Year. I will work on improving my heat treating skills. Luckily, I have a friend close by with a Rockwell tester who will give me some guidance there. Secondly, I will improve my skills to make liner lock folders. I want to become competent in that...

    2014 Knifemaker Holiday Gift Exchange

I came home last night to find a package in the mail from my secret Santa. I got a very nice outside spring caliper, with a history (well, at least a good story) that ties them to Fred's grandfather and Mr. Ford (Ford Motor Company) in Flat Rock, MI. This will have a special place in my tool...

    Moku-Ti friction folder

Very beautiful Lerman. But I have to ask, is the Ti part of the mokume, or are you using it just for the liner?

First time filing jig grind questions

One thing that I might inject here is; you are measuring the angle of 12 degrees but I think that is correct only if the base is set at 0 degrees. I might be wrong here, and if I am just ignore me. Also, on thicker steel, you may have to drop the angle to get the desired angle you want. If...

Suggestions for good clean bevels and ricassos?

I can't over state how important new belts are for a good grind. As the wear out, use them for roughing out blanks. New, sharp belts will improve your results immensely. To keep the grind line straight, you might consider using a guide that clamps onto the blade. Then the front and back...
