    Edge question, after heat treat

Thanks guys, I do understand what you are both saying. I think what I am maybe doing wrong is not keeping the full blade against the belt as you are describing. I think trying to be aware of that will make a difference. I understand the "torque" aspect and know what it feels like. So I will try...

    Edge question, after heat treat

Hi John, Yes. When I do my finish grinding it seems that just regrinding the blade is not working because the edge is still too thick. So I am wondering the best way to remedy that? What is your approach to thinning out the edge?

    Edge question, after heat treat

OK Dogs, I'd like some advice on the finish grinding process after heat treat. How do you handle the edge? Do you grind down to the finished thickness and then bring the grind up (like the initial grind) ? Do You just grind the full width and put more pressure on the edge of the blade...

    3rd knife completed

OK Dogs, This is my 3rd knife. There are two firsts on this one for me. I tapered the tang and contoured the handle. It is O1, Black and White liners (very thin Black against the blade) and Red G10 with a Scotch Bright finish on the blade. I still need to etch my logo on the blade, maybe later...

    2nd completed knife

Thanks guy's! The heat treat was done at a friends shop who has a converted kiln that works great for O1. I hope to try and build a heat treat oven as that would really speed things up being able to heat treat and move on. Right now I had to try and grind several blades and work it out with his...

    2nd completed knife

Hey Dogs! So this is my 2nd completed knife. I have ground 8 blades total and have 5 more on the bench that I have heat treated. I destroyed my 2nd blade by over grinding while trying to even it out:eek: I really tried to make the time this week to get out in the shop after work. I highly...

    Tapered Tang question

Yes, I profiled, ground, drilled and tapered. Dave, I will give this a try. A friend of mine told me about a jig that was similar to a knife vise, you put the blade in the vise (which held it horizontally) and then it had a bolt that pushed the scale up from the bottom against the tang and then...

    Tapered Tang question

Ok Dogs, I think I got a little ahead of myself huh1! This is my first tapered tang and I just realized I may have some issues drilling the holes through the scales! How do you drill your scales when you have a tapered tang and keep everything lined up and straight? Any input would be...
