HT before and after grind effects?

Alright, thank you Doug, I started on the blade without HT anyways. I have an 80 grit belt and i'm trying to put moderate firm pressure. My grinds don't come out very even but i hope it will come out alright, i'm half way done but i'm doing a flat grind half way down the blade. The blade is 5"...

    Shop/tools suggestions

Thank you very much, but that knife wasn't my first, I just don't progress too fast ^_^ it's been a year or two since I started, I've made maybe 6-8 knives. Doing your first with hand files just give you a better feel for the knife making process as a whole (It did to me at least although it was...

    Shop/tools suggestions

Try your first with some hand files. You can file the blade shape on the steel, make the edge, and clean the edge (Make it smoother) using some basic hand files. Their cheap and you'll never regret buying them because you will always need them no matter how great your tools are :) -Pedro G.

I found a used but great condition wilton 2" belt grinder for 300$ with extra belts. Its the 2500$ model. Is this a good deal? Better than that, should I go for it once i can rack up some money? -Pedro G.

We should have a Knifedogs android app.

Since normal phones are quickly becoming non-existant and smart phones are taking over I think we should have an app for KnifeDogs. Id be nice to have a comfortable easy way to get on the forums while your waiting at the doc's office or your taking a break from work. What do you guys/gals...

    Knife designs for thicker steel?

I have a couple pieces of 1084 stock I want to use before I buy any more steel. They are all 1/4" thick. About 1 1/2" wide and length is about 7-11". My question is, What kind of knife designs would suit this steel nicely? (If you can post pictures of the style it would be great too!)...

Haha that's alright! Yes it is from overheating and I had planned to make it a full mirror finish but I decided instead of grinding the crud off i'll just sand over it and I loved how it looked! Thank you very much Doug! -Pedro G.
