    End-cut Boxes From USAknifemaker

One more thing, are most of the colors not too wacky and bright colors? I don't mind a little, but I prefer earth and natural tones.

    End-cut Boxes From USAknifemaker

Thanks, do you think there would be many pieces that would work for a pair of knife scales 1" wide by 3.75ish" long?

    End-cut Boxes From USAknifemaker

Has anyone purchase one of the boxes of either micarta or g10? Were you satisfied and able to get enough material for scale to make it worth it? Are g10 and micarta mixed or are they separate boxes? Thanks!

    My First Three Knives Finished!

After a lot of work, I finally finished my first three knives from this thread. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1090264-My-Knife-Making-Journey-Advice-Would-Be-Greatly-Appreciated I can't really call one or another my first knife as I worked on them in a single batch but...

    First Knife WIP

Here's a rather large update... I did the grinds on both knives now. It's definitely getting easier the more times I do it. Tip geometry. Edge thickness. Here's the other knife. Tip. Thanks for looking!

    First Knife WIP

I think I straightened the handles well now. Here's a pic of the kitchen knife I started. My sander is supposed to come on Friday so I'll be able to do the grinds then. :)

    First Knife WIP

I started a new one in the last few days. My 1x30 broke so I haven't done the grind yet, in the meantime I've started on my first kitchen knife. I'll try to get a pic in the next few days. One question, I'm not sure if the handles are completely straight, will this affect the ability to...

    First Knife WIP

UPDATE: I drilled 1/4" holes and I'm planning on 3/16" pins for the handle. I accidentally touched the handle with a trizact so it got a little shiny. That won't cause any trouble with the handle right? I feel like I did a nice lean convex for my first ever grind. I use a progression of...

    First Knife WIP

Okay. I'm going to drill the handle holes today. If I understand correctly, if I were to use 1/8 pins for the handle, I would drill the tang holes with something like 3/16 to allow extra room? And when I would do the handle scale pins I would drill the holes with something like a #30 bit? I'll...

    First Knife WIP

I just started my first knife today! It's turning out much better than I thought, hopefully my beginner's luck keeps coming. :) Starting hacksawing the blade out from the bar stock. Now I smoothed it out with my 1x30 sander, a half-round file, and a little Dremel work. It's 1084...

    1084 ht

Thanks for the help! So for normalizing, I would heat it up a bit over non-magnetic and let air-cool? Then do it twice more?

    1084 ht

I know this has been asked hundreds of times, but is this a good procedure for HTing a stock removal knife from Aldo's 1084? 1. Profile, and bevel. 2. Normalize 3 times. (IS THIS NECESSARY ON A STOCK REMOVAL KNIFE? HOW WOULD I GO ABOUT NORMALIZING?) 3. Raise the temp to non-magnetic and let...

What do you guys think is the ideal rc for a 52100 kitchen knife?

    52100

How easy is 52100 to grind? Would it be a good steel for kitchen and bushcraft knives or would 1095 be better for the bushcraft ones? I was planning on sending the blades to Peter's for HT so I wouldn't have to worry about that.
