Part of the reason is that it's too slow to raise and lower the entire head manually all the time (I mill Ti a lot and don't want it to sit there rubbing while I raise the head). Also when the head isn't locked...

I second this... You really only need x and y axis too, as long as the quill has one for the z.

I've been I really happy with my Matthew's... I got the 727-v. One of my scales for the DRO needs replacing after about 3 years but that's it.

Anyone tried the rhynalox white line sandpaper? I notice some suppliers are carrying it now and it's a lot cheaper than redline... Edit: Looks like the white line is only up to 120 grit but I'm still curious on the difference :)

It was another alternative to Bladeforums but they had subsections for other topics than just knives. But a lot of big name knife makers were over there like Tom mayo and Ken onion. But it kinda died out over the past few years imho

If it was laser cut then there is a heat affected zone that is much harder than the annealed steel... Try grinding away 1/16-1/8" then cutting, also, don't feed too hard into your bandsaw. And I assume you're using slow speed one (portaband?)

I eyeball it and then use my mill to make them really flat... It's sorta time consuming lol

Yeah I use my porta band for everything lol... Works really well on stabilized stuff, cf and metal (especially certain types) eat blades pretty quick though

Also, don't try to cut stabilized stuff with a table saw... I've tried and it doesn't work well lol, dulls even the carbide teeth pretty quick

Just checked and it's within .0017" across a 4.5" folder blank but I'm not getting any runout at the ends, or if so only a couple tenths. Like I said, it gets me close and I finish up on my real surface grinder

I'll have to check the next one I do... I think I'm holding less than .001", on a folder blade that is. Then I take to to my real surface grinder to clean up and get that final precision. The SGA is good for hogging but not finish grinding imho. I'm still getting waves but I think it's because...

Sure I mounted a trough and used kydex for one of the 'mudflaps' and rubber horse stall matte for the other (although since this is an old Pic it's rubber for both). Here's a quick Pic and a video of how I use it with sharpening a knife... I have flood and mist coolant set up
