Foil wrapped Stainless & Baby powder

Talc is a good thing! You CAN purge your whole HT kiln if you want to go that route. I had one on mine that I just made from pipe fittings and drilled a hole into the top of my HT oven. I guess it’s hard on the elements. I don’t do lots of stainless so I took it off and just use pouches again...

Question on attaching extension to tang

I have seen a YouTube video of Bob Dozier doing exactly that! It didn’t look like he was really “adding length” so much as “adding a threaded portion”. I don’t see why it shouldn’t work.

    yakut knives

The blade on Scandinavian ground knives should have flat bevels leading right to a finished edge, with no secondary edge. Some people do like to put a slightly heavier angle on the last bit of the edge. Generally they end up as a slightly convex edge, beveled right to an edge. The entire bevel...

    Anler scales!

Wow, that’s an impressive bend you took out! I’ve done that on a couple that were bent maybe 1/2” and winced every time I cranked the vice. That’s awesome!

    3rd Slip Joint

I like the color on that blade. Reminds me of color case hardening.

    Interesting anvil comparison

Right on. A crappy anvil is still better than no anvil at all. My first was a plate of 1/2” mild steel held onto a stump with bent over nails, and forge was a hole in the ground filled with charcoal blown with a shop vac. I’ve upgraded a little over the years lol

    Interesting anvil comparison

You definitely want the higher rebound.

What's going on in your shop?

I’m making cookies! Cookies from birch bark, for a knife I’ll make when it gets a little nicer outside. These pucks are about 2” in diameter, I like to have a lot of material to work with because it’s not uncommon for me to screw something up. Im gluing them up into about 3/4” thick spacers.

    First slip joint

What are you using to cut the nail nick in your blades?

    First slip joint

If that’s your first I’d say ya did pretty good. Maybe I’m old fashioned, but slip joints are still my favorite. That navy blue and brass is a nice combo. Now I want to try one lol.

    2X72 water mister

Maybe I should not run so much water in mine and I would use it more! You make a great point, it probably doesn’t need that much and then it won’t be so messy. Those things are awesome on thin blades

    2X72 water mister

I don’t use mine much, but they are definitely nice to have as an option. That looks like a nice kit. My brother is using something similar. He screwed an upside down paintbrush beneath the belt to sweep the water off and guide it to the bucket. Haven’t tried it yet, but next time I need to wet...
