Trouble Heat Treating Baker Forge Bronze SanMai

Hell yeah! Glad to hear it all worked out, having to scrap something like that is enough to make ya cry.

Might want to give it a shot anyway. “Real” 50 HRC should file pretty easily. If not I’d say you are just getting a bad read

Not my favorite either. I have to be in the right mindset to tolerate it for hours without going insane.

What's going on in your shop?

Hand sanding today, fun fun…..all day last Friday and part of today. Finally got this up to 180 and everything where I want it. Well, on this side anyway. The other side is still at 60 grit and has some ripples in it to address, but I’m getting there.

I like those scales! What are they? (Some kind of antler I presume)

What's going on in your shop?

It was some pretty stuff. My picture taking skills don’t show it off very good, but I sure liked it!

Stitched up a sheath this morning. Soaked it for a bit and molded it, now it’s just gotta dry and it’s pretty much done.

What's going on in your shop?

Got about as far as I care to go on this hunter today. I’ll wrap it in rubber bands and let the epoxy finish curing and cut and dome the pins tomorrow. It’s 5:00 somewhere though, so I’m calling it a day.

Hey, I used a piece of that same G-Carta earlier this summer! It’s pretty stuff!

What's going on in your shop?

Normally I would have to do it before too, but I’m not going to quench the tang and I’m confident it won’t harden. I don’t want to do them before because I may end up not liking that location after post HT cleanup size changes

What's going on in your shop?

I’ve never owned one of my “good” knives. They have all been ones that fell into the “to good to scrap, not good enough to sell” category. Today I decided I would make myself a “good” knife. Little edc in W2. It’s .300” thick, but “actually” a 1/16” thick lightly convexed blade with a hollow...

    Glass Platen Radius Size?

Top and bottom radiused just a bit so it wasn’t sharp. More of a chamfer than anything

    Glass Patten

I been running one for about a year. Really nice. Belt seems to run smoother on it too. You’ll like it. Got mine from the Boss

I sort of wish it would work too. About an hour into sanding……lol

    Got me a new toy

Congratulations! I barely figured out how to program mine well enough to work. Looks like you got it figured out!

What's going on in your shop?

I have a 36” radius platen. The reason I’m doing it this way is I want that super thick spine by the handle so it’s comfortable on the finger. I can’t do that with a radius platen without making the knife excessively heavy. That’s a purdy grind you have there!

What's going on in your shop?

It is roughed in to 60 grit with a 5/8 wheel as carefully as I can, then the radius’s are carved into the plunges with carbide burrs and round stones in a dremel. Then it is shaped from that point on using hones, a multitude of sanding blocks, and lots of elbow grease. I constantly go over it...

What's going on in your shop?

Just got the plunges into this 7” nakiri. It’s weird how knives go from “just a little more” to “oh my god what did I do” so quickly. Made it through the OMG stage, now it’s smooth sailing.
