    440C Rusting.... Need help!

Stainless steel is rust resistant but not rust proof. Even 440C will rust if left in contact with water long enough. If the tools are wiped dry after use this shouldn't be happening unless there are some other chemicals involved that are reacting with the steel.

Feedback - Feedback - Feedback Please ! Hometown Hero Build

I like the idea of knowing who the knives are going to. I have not visted our local recruiter and have not yet even looked into it. I am willing to make several knives. I really appreciate Peters Heat Treating donating the service but in my case it would be more efficient to do my own heat...

Perfectly alright. As long as you are not trying to sell in the aisles there is no problem at all.

zbq, the Guild Show is always an educational experience for me. I couldn't tell you how much I have learned from talking to the other kinfemakers and asking how they did this or that. I always come away a better knifemaker because of something I learned at the show.

    what a find 440

A lot of factory knives 440B although they might call it something else. I have little personal experience with Randall knives but they do have a large, loyal following who swear by their knives. It does not have as much carbon as 440C but it will still make a decent blade. As far as I can tell...

Sheath making area in your shop.

If its going to be in your shop, it should be a separate room that is closed off from the rest of the shop to avoid dust and dirt. I end up doing most of my leather work at the kitchen table and the wife is so appreciative of that. :nothing:

    Buffer Recommendation

I bought my buffer several years ago from Caswell Plating http://www.caswellplating.com/buffs/34hpbuffkit.html. It has served me very well and was reasonably priced. 1750 RPM is what you want for buffing. In my opinion, 3500 RPM is just too dangerous. Long shafts are aslo very important if...

    Servicemember Knife Build "Recruiting Drive"

I am ready to ship the finished knife. Where should I send it? I bead blasted the balde and kept it pretty plain and simple. I really like the Mcam G10 handle material and the Spec Ops sheath is outstanding. Thanks for the priviledge of doing something for our...

I would temper for two hours at 400 degrees. That should bring them down to about 58 Rc.

    Mammoth teeth and ivory

You pretty much covered it for ivory. Go slow, use sharp bits and belts, keep it cool (Do not dunk it in water). Mammoth Ivory grinds, cuts, sands and drills very easy but stinks when you are cutting it. I have used it natural and stabilized. It is not really fossilized, it might be just at...

    Does this make sense?

Our biggest annual gun show, National Gun Day, is coming up this month. I just got an email from the show promoter stating "The ESPN cable network has REFUSED to run my TV commercial on the Louisville, Kentucky cable system, as well as, THE HISTORY CHANNEL! Their management said that they have...
