    Knife class

I've seen a few video's with challenges to make a knife in under that time. But I certainly couldn't do it in 8 hours. 8 Days maybe if I worked on it every day. I do wonder about the heat treat process also.

    Cheap Drill bits

Me neither. I've tried sharpening by hand, but results vary quite a bit. So I usually buy new bits. I may look into those Harbor Freight ones.

    What to charge for sharpening

I'm surprised the guy didn't ask ahead of time how much you charge. Personally I don't think $10 per blade would be too much. Or you could charge a flat $100 for all 12. Just a thought. However I haven't had to sharpen any blades except when I make them.

    Grinding position

I tried it. Once. I don't know if my setup was wrong or what. But I couldn't get it to work at all.

You'll be fine until they start putting Krypton under your bed. Can't remember who 'they' are though. Maybe it's my wife

My L5 is pretty much gone also. I go to a pain and spine clinic that gives me corti-steroid injections and once a year they do a nerve ablation. Works like a charm...sorta.

What's going on in your shop?

Definite Hamon activity. This is at 600. I'll probably take this to at least 800

What's going on in your shop?

WIP: A small drop point. Christmas present for my stepson I posted this knife a while back which, at the time, turned out to have carbon build up rather than a Hamon. Since then I've sanded some more and I may have a mild Hamon, though it doesn't show in this photo. Currently at 320 grit...

Damascus and High Carbon Steels are not food safe -- aka the Jay Fisher Rabbit Hole

I get it. It all depends on whose buying and how much they believe it's worth.

Wow...I agree. Knock 10K off and he might have a winner.

    Burnishing 3-4 layer edges

That sounds promising. There is also Fiebings Gun Tragacanth. Which slicks the leather edges to prepare for edge finishes. I just leave it as is. Though there are various colors of edge finishes to really make things sparkle

    Grinding position

I think it would be worth a try. I've tried grinding from my shop stool a couple of times with mixed success. If I can get my grinder to tilt that way I may try it.

    Belt progression

I usually do my initial grinds with 60, 120 and 220. At 220 I send out for heat treat or heat treat in my forge. After that I'll usually start with 320 then 400 and 800. Sometimes I'll stop at 400 and hand sand from there. I usually keep belts longer than I should. But once they start to glaze...

Same here. Mine has open rails though, so maybe that's the difference?
