Relief notch in Ti liners/frame folding knives

I just finished a folder today with the .100 ti and milled the relief on the inside of the liner. I used a 1/4" straight HSS mill (not rounded) and milled it down to .055". It looks nice and neat and works great. On my next folder I may try out jryan76's and Les' method. I will probably go...

Relief notch in Ti liners/frame folding knives

That is something I never thought of jryan76. Did you put the relief on both sides or just relieve one side? I can't really tell by the pictures. I am confused by something you say - "I put a piece of .40 ti in my lock cutout and then did the relief on my 10" wheel." Are you using the .40...

Relief notch in Ti liners/frame folding knives

Thanks guys for all the replies. Les - do you happen to know what size holes Tod is drilling? This sounds like an interesting idea. Tom - I went back to your tutorial and noticed that you are using a carbide end mill as well. Thanks for the tutorial by the way. Stew - No I had not...

Relief notch in Ti liners/frame folding knives

I have some .100" 6AL-4V Ti that I am using for liners. I normally use .050" or .063" and don't need to cut a relief notch for the lock. I believe I will need to cut a relief notch for the thicker liner. What are you folks using to cut the notch with? I am thinking a round end mill, but what...

    Ok, I give ...

I don't grind the blade at all until after heat treating and the whole knife is complete. One of the last things I do is to grind the blade. I just hold on to the knife handle, the whole folder is functional and complete except for grinding. I do this because of blade warpage during HT.

    My Tutorial on Anodizing Titanium

Thanks for the tutorial Tom. It came at a good time for me. I am nearing completion of a folder and was thinking about anodizing the liners. I am leaning toward doing that now, using your tutorial.

2 knives donated to US Navy

Thank you all for the kind remarks. I wanted to do something for our military, but wanted to keep it local. I am a retired soldier, but this is a Navy town - no Army here. Joe, I do most of my hog hunting in Ft. Stewart, GA and the surrounding area. I got into making knives because of my...

2 knives donated to US Navy

Here are two knives that I just finished. I am donating these knives to the Instructor of the Year and the Sailor of the Year at the Surface Rescue Swimmer School, NAS Jacksonville, FL. The blades are convex ground 440C at 59RC. They have red vulcanized fiber liners sandwiched by the full tang...

    Knife vs. Gun show

Jason, besides the Blade Show this year I went to two Turkey and Deer shows, one here in Jacksonville and one in Birmingham. The one in Birmingham listed itself as the largest Turkey and Deer Show in the world. There was a ton of traffic at the Birmingham show and not so much at the...

    QUESTION ON FILE WORK

Hey Steve, welcome to Knife Dogs. I do my filing before HT, but sometimes I need to clean things up after HT. For after HT, I use diamond-coated needle files that I get from Harbor Freight. Good luck.

Badges? we need badges? looking for feedback

Yes, I think this is a great idea. I would rather have a simpler one with just the KnifeDogs.com, logo and name and prefer the vertical one. Thanks in advance for all who will get this done.

    How to fill filework

Thanks Geoff, that is exactly what I have been looking for! One question. Why don't you put the resin in after attaching the handles, rather than before?

I like the "pig sticker" best also, but I am partial to all hog knives :D.
