Thanks Tracy & David. One more question if you don't mind. Can you bolt two plates together to get the 1" or 1.5"? For example, 2 pieces that are .5" each or 2 pieces that are .75" each. I haven't calculated it out but I am guessing that might lower the price a bit?

Excuse me for butting in. Where did you guys buy these large plates? Does it matter what alloy of aluminum, i.e. 5052, 6061, etc?

It might work for tempering, but I doubt it will get hot enough for heat treating. HT calls for temperatures in the 1500 to 2000 F range. I could look up each steel's HT temp but I think that is a pretty good range off the top of my head.

I think it looks great peppercorn. I have heard that it is better to have only the knife in the picture with nothing else though. On some knives I agree with having it only in the picture, but I think your setting adds to what I believe you want to convey about the knives.

Yes it comes with a stand and yes it is required. It doesn't get too hot around the oven but I don't think it wise to put it directly on something. I have a 22.5" and love it.

Nice knife! We just got a ten foot alligator last month and threw away the tongue and jaw ... damn, I could have used it for a knife and sheath :D. Never thought of that.
