    Highlighting dye problems

Looks like the consensus is make the marks you make on the face of the leather as inconspicuous as possible. But any, and I mean ANY mark you make will be visible to someone, even if its only you.

    Botched sheath

I'm very glad to hear that Tandy is looking to correct some of those stamps that are, for lack of a better word, substandard. I've picked up examples with casting voids. It doesn't happen often, but when it does its very aggravating. I try to hit every estate sale that has leather craft in the...

    Botched sheath

Paul hit it right on the nose. The size of an entire side can be overwhelming in comparison to what you got, a single shoulder averages 6-8 square feet, a side can average 20 and larger (I found one once that was 30, what a beast) I had heard at one time that W&C was working on doing some...

    Botched sheath

Looks like a half shoulder to me, not familiar with the number though. The 02 at the end suggests that is a #2 grade and is just fine for sheath work, the weight is ok as well for pouches. If that is indeed a half shoulder you were sent in the right direction. Your stamping suggests one of two...

Going to be gone for a couple of days

Hello Knife Dogs Sheath Fans!! I will be out of town, and possibly out of cell range, for a few days to attend my Grandmothers funeral. No worries, she is is a much much better place with Grandfather and my Father. Just imagining them all together makes me feel warm inside. Y'all behave now...

    What Happen?

Dehydrators come in two flavors, one is simple forced air, which is fine, the other uses heat induction, that one will cook a sheath in very little time. Aint leather working a constant search for knowledge! As long as you never stop learning you will never stop improving!

    Fighter sheath leather

Looks nice and clean, but, the lack of stitching is just waiting for a failure. Glue is a means to hold the piece together till its stitched, or riveted, together. Personally, and its my opinion only, I would not rely on one rivet and glue to hold one of my sheaths together. I look at it this...

    What Happen?

Yup, when the climate gets damp it can be excruciating waiting for that leather to dry. Thats where that little forced air heater comes in handy, I've been using mine for many years to give my leather a little more help in getting dry. It still takes hours, but its both safer and slow enough not...

    What Happen?

This is something that gave me such a headache a few years ago. #1 I used to only wet the area I wanted to mold, then I got a water line showing up when I dyed the leather. Its, as some have surmised, a hard water mark. #2 I got a similar mark where the glue line was, I used to glue a small...

A themed set of frontier goods

I've been watching your work from the day you first entered the forums way back, and you have shown a constant maturation in your work. In other words, and those of you new to the craft listen, you never stop learning and improving your work. I've watched those with so much talent just...

Linda, It didn't take even a second to make it so, there is no question how much Dave has influenced the sheath making community, the award is a very small thank you.
