    uh oh..Peening problem.

This works, but be aware that you will almost always get a tapered pin, which isn't the end of the world, but a micrometer and frequent checking will make your life much easier

    Blasted solder balls!

I pickle the pieces in a 1/4 Hydrochloric/water solution for 5 minutes or so I've never once managed to solder a good joint with anything but Stay-brite flux and silver solder (got my first coil from Pop's a LONG while ago, just about ready to get some more from Tracy)

    Blasted solder balls!

I have had about the same experience as John some tips. CLEAN everything very very well with denatured alchohol flux only the areas you want soldered solder will not flow past a pencil line (graphite) solder at the LOWEST possible temperature, to much heat makes life suck if the flux turns...

    uh oh..Peening problem.

It is possible, but not by any means simple. how much practice do you have with peening pins? I would be sure to use a peening block and patience

    Belts

For the blade finish see this thread, I do most all of my blades like this: http://www.knifedogs.com/showthread.php?t=1710 For the Handle I grind it to shape with the 36, clean it up with the 80, and then 220 then I just go at it with Klingspor sheet abrasives (the white ones with the...

    Belts

When I built my NWG almost 2 years ago the first thing I did was call Tracy and have a hour long discussion on belts. I started out with the orange blaze belts and have never found a belt I like better. and I'm pretty sure I've tried them all. the closest are the Cubitron belts from Pop's...

    knife making lessons

another potential thought is a pricing schedule based on teaching curriculum, this would work best if the student lives nearby and can come for a day or two at a time (it's HARD to cover an entire knife from start to finish in two days) if it's an 8 hour day and you cover whatever the student...

    website overhaul

I like the information and concept, but honestly the page layout and design looks like MS Word template webpage stuff I would try to get rid of the border between the link area and the page area some gradient to the colored background would help I would make the links almost double their...

    Which Business Entity and Why?

to be entirely frank. at this point I am a Sole proprietorship, simply because I haven't taken the time to go to my tax guy and figure out the S corp. When I used to be a Trim carpenter I was set up as an LLC.

    Knife Maker Web Sites

I recognize that we're approaching this from a different mindset and this is entirely my own personal opinion. I feel like if I waited until that point to worry about advertising it would be entirely to late. I know exactly where your coming from there. it's tough but I've managed to get...

    Knife Maker Web Sites

Thanks John that was some very well thought out input, and I think your pricing scheme works very well given your styles. Just a clarification, while I do put in easily 40 hrs a week at knifemaking, it is not my primary income (my wife would KILL me) I am a project manager for a Construction...

    Knife Maker Web Sites

Purely out of my own curiosity, what then is the point of having the website if your NOT running a business? I use my website as a reference to knives I've made in the past, I use it to host WIP pictures to create interest and traffic, I have a good bit of Bio and personal information for...
