    2011 Leatherwork of Distinction

Thank you Steve, I know the pics will flow. :) The Dave Cole Memorial I think will become an institution around here, if only for what he has done for this forum and what he has done for the craft in general. He was one of the first to take me under his wing and show me what a craftsman needs...

    Newbie Question???

I've seen those Hobby Lobby leather packs and most of them are that odd in between leather, its chrome tanned then veggie tanned to give it some body. It makes for a strange feeling leather both dry and wet. I have some of it from a supplier (not to be named) that stuck in in a roll I bought...

Sharpening round knife with a belt sander

Good question. I can imagine a lot of skinned knuckles if your not careful. That rounded blade is not easy on a stone. Probably why I am resisting getting one. So far nothing my Stanley utility knife cant handle.

KYDEX Sheath Makers !!! We need your HELP !!!

The last one pictured is what I was thinking would be the most practical method for attachment to molle equipment. I've done similar in leather, and I"ve seen it done in nylon as well. Its as easy as cutting two inch wide straps.

    This is my 4th sheath.

This is they way I do it. I sand the edges untill they are smooth with no, or as little as possible, tool marks with the power sander I have. Both belt and disk, the disk is great for leveling and the belt is great for finishing. Then after edging I take a sponge and wet the edges lightly and...

    I need help

Hi Doug, Looking at the knife, very nice by the way! I wouldn't worry to awful much about the up swept point on that one digging in. I've done sheaths with a much more drastic point and they are doing fine. A little more care needs to be had with the point when inserting the knife in the sheath...

I dont know what to say, devastation comes to mind. Many tears, many memories, and many days before this really hits home. Way too much of this I've seen lately and I'm not taking it well. Linda, please let us know if you need ANYTHING ok? Shock is a good word, why is it always the good...

    Gluing Kydex?

To add to our fearless leaders excellent advice....... :5: The kydex needs to have some tooth for the glue to adhere to. Take some very rough grit sand paper and really take it to the plastic till you can feel a nice toothy texture to the surface, both sides if your both lining and covering the...
