I love leather work, I fist hate doing it! ;)

For me I sharpen all my newly made knives on a 500 grit diamond stone until I get a burr. I knock that off with a leather strop. Then I strop the edge until it slices paper cleanly without any little snag. I do like a hair popping blade though.

I might have to try that! I did get the Sorrells jig and I like it. Especially for setting the initial flat. It’s more useful for shorter blades though.

I can’t ever figure out those other platforms. I need to visit here more often. I learned a lot of stuff here !

For some reason 1095 has fallen out of favor for a lot of buyers. I purchased a lot of 1095 and 1084 when I first started. I still use 1084 for blades. The 1095 I use for steel fire strikers mostly.

Hang in there. Knife making is a solo sport but it’s the forum that ties the makers to tips and techniques. I’m going to try to be more active here.

Sorrells also has a new jig out. I have one and like it. His tools are very nice. I also have his jig for drilling pin holes in uneven stock/tapered tangs.

Could you try using a small extraction tool? I don’t think you would have to drill a large diameter hole.
