    Forged Feather Damascus Three Finger

I got a beautiful piece of feather damacus billet from forum member billyO. I decided to cut off a small piece and try forging up a small blade OAL is 6". I think the wood came from J. Doyle. This photo is with one coat of true oil. I forgot to put my makers mark on it :(.

Small Bowie in Damascus and Stag

Credit for the beautiful damascus billet goes to Benjy forum member and friend. I have a few more tweaks to do but it's essentially finished for photo op. I need to take Ed's advise and get out the magnifying glasses to make sure all the bugs are off - just kidding - still lots of fit and...

Not funny to me April fools

I received an email from Combat abrasive thanking me for a order - I have not ordered anything from them in a while - so I kind of ignore it. Then another email that said invoiced attached. I opened the email and the invoice was listed as $7,321! A few lines down it said April fool! This was...

    Cool morning for forging

It's been a few weeks since I was in the shop but was able to get out and start on a blade this morning. I cut a section of a twist damascus billet I got from Benjy and went at it. Here are some photos of the progress so far. After gettting it profiled and sanded I heated it up and I'm...

    Latest FIF

Pretty interesting episode with the match up on second chance contestants. But the second one with the female contestant was interesting. Her male counter part was sweating his shirt through but it appeared she never broke a sweat. Maybe my wife is right - men sweat women glisten.

Wait until the build ends to sharpen!

Ok, so NORMALLY I wait until all the fit and finish is done before I sharpen a knife. Yesterday, for some reason, I decided to sharpen that Bowie I'm building with still more work to do around the guard/handle. I probably do as a lot of you guys do - put a light coat of oil on the blade, wrap...

    Arbor Press Question Advise

I have a HF arbor press and now have a need or would like to have a flaring tool attachment for flaring the ends of tubes for knife handles. Any of you guys have this attachment or advise you can share. The ram arm on my press doesn't have any threaded hole to mount one.

    Lanyard Tube Sizing

I typically use 1/4" tube for my lanyard tube and use a 1/4" drill bit for the lanyard hole which makes for a no fit. To make it fit I chuck the 1/4" tube in my portable drill and turn the grinder on slow speed. the combination of running the drill against the running belt takes off just...

    KITH From BossDog

I certainly apologize for being late posting this one of a kind KITH from the Boss. But that didn't keep me from enjoying it from the time I received it. This is one smooth, light and handy edc addition for me. I love it! Thanks Boss!! Here it is right at home with some of my other favorites.

Recessed Ricasso Accident Waiting to Happen.

There is an article in the recent BLADE magazine that pretty much says recesses ricassos are useless on a knife other than it makes it easier to fit a guard or makes it easy to forge the blade. To be honest I never gave it much thought but visually it does adds a lot of interest. I can’t...

    26C3 steel Chef Knife

I made this chef's knife 15 months ago. My wife has used it almost daily. This is the first time I have sharpened it. Not that I could not have done it prior to today but I didn't feel it needed it. But I did check the edge and it had some light deflections along the edge so I decided to...

    Neutralizing Etching Solution

Question. I typically use Windex for neutralizing the ferric chloride when I etch blades. Vegas Forge suggests using baking soda as an alternative on their damascus. On a stainless Damascus the windex didn’t do anything as far as revealing the pattern But I etched again And then used baking...

    New quench formula

I came up with the idea to mix 1 part canola oil with 1 part engine oil 1 part transmission oil and enough lard to make a solid quench solution. That way I can move the ammo can around without spilling. This solution could also be use to prevent rust on finished blades. I am also thinking it...

    Bog oak and damascus

Just about to wrap this one up. I may apply truoil to the handle, haven't decided, for now it's just buffed. As the title this knife is Alabama damasucs with an ancient bog oak handle, G10 spaces. Guard is a piece of 1084 I had on the bench. It's thru-tang construction, hidden nut with the...
