    Teak Oil

Has anyone on this forum used teak oil for their knife handles? If so, would you kindly explain your process? How durable is this finish? Can the knife handle be easily refreshed with a fresh coat of oil? Also, is there a preferable brand of oil such as Watco, etc., or is teak oil just teak oil...

    Cutting antler/stag into scales

I have used the search button in this forum and scoured the Internet for this info, but have come up empty. I've learned that a bandsaw in conjunction with a "sled" can be used to accomplish this task. Try as I might, I can't grasp the written word on how to build this "sled"! A picture is...

    Bone stag questions?

For those of you who have used the various types of bone scales, are they usually fairly flat, or, are they warped to the point they are a hindrance? Also, looking at the different suppliers of said product, some don't list the thickness of the scales, how does one cope with that? Is there a...

    Grizzly Grinder super fast/super hot!

I have just started grinding blades on smaller bird and trout type knives with a thickness of .125 and man do they get hot quick even without trying to hog metal off. Stick tang shoulder/guard?

I know that the tang should be radiused at the shoulder junction to prevent stress risers from the heat treat process, but, does the guard have to have that same radius in slot to match the shoulder radius? I hope I'm making myself clear. Thanks. Bill

    Heat treating affect pin holes?

I believe if .125 diameter pins are used, one would drill .1285 (#30 drill) holes for the scales, but how does heat treat affect the diameter of the holes? Do they expand, do not expand, no change? Thanks. Bill

    Quench ant for 01

I tried the search but didn't really confirm anything. I heard of Chevron Texaco, McMaster Carr, Parks, AAA, and Brownells. I would prefer a known quenchant as opposed to vegetable oils, etc. Although I am new at this, I think this would be the best procedure for me. Can someone recommend...

    Hidden Tang Question

Can you use two pieces of wood, bone, whatever scales and mill, or chisel out the outline of the tang on the inside of the scales so that it appears the handle is one piece? If done correctly, super flat mating surfaces and properly epoxied, would this work? Thanks. Bill
