    That Was Stupid

Nice save. Just tell yourself that one needed a little more hand sanding anyway and it wont seem so bad.

    Nakiri shape question.

Iv'e seen them 3 ways. Angled back, straight 90 degrees, and angled forward. Astatically I think the slight angle on the front may look a bit better to my eyes. I have also seen them with a slightly curved cutting edge and a dead flat cutting edge. The rounded nose at the cutting edge is so it...

Go to youtube and type in "skin an alligator" and see what they are using. Lots of videos there.

What's going on in your shop?

Nice dewar. Insulation is everything, make yourself a nice 2" thick styrofoam box to put it in and your nitrogen will last even longer. Just in case you don't know, don't plug the vents in the cap, it has to be able to breathe or it will build up pressure and bad things will happen. Let us know...

Just bought a very cheap paragon sc2: question about viable as a heat treat oven.

LOL. Just dive right into the murky waters, from the high board, at 90 MPH with your hair on fire! -The oven looks fine for heat treating stainless blades as long as it works and the temps are accurate. -I would stick to a blade length that you can center in the oven (10"). Don't forget you...

Small Batch Run of MagnaCut frame locks

Looking good so far, I will be following along. A tip for you that is better/stiffer than the spotting drill is a center drill for a lathe and they are cheap.

    Wood Identity

All depends on how far you shove it up your nose :D

What's going on in your shop?

Going on a little Japanese excursion here.... this all started with me wanting a nakiri for the kitchen. I cut out and profiled some blades for a couple of hours after work for the last 2 nights and ended up with this pile. They are all 0.093" AEB-L. Some of the smaller ones still need a to have...

    Cleaning Conditioning Belt?

Try this. I think giving them some good soak time is important.

I keep soapy water in the quench tank.

It will also keep the metal dust from floating around on top.

    AEB-L steel, pro's/con's

I'm pretty sure if you call Alpha they will cut you what ever you want if you order a sufficient quantity of it. I've ordered three 16" x 24" sheets of 154CM from Chuck before.

    Bought a surface grinder

Daniel, have you got this beast running yet? I bought a B&S 612 and it was 480 volt as well. I ended up putting a KBAC27 VFD on it and with some serious wiring help/advise from the guys on Practical Machinist, she is running like a charm. One thing I will advise you to check when it is up and...

    Grizzly G0704 Mill Tool

The tools for both these problems are already made. For the quill they make a pin spanner wrench or a hook spanner wrench. For the draw bar they make 8 point sockets, 12 point sockets (fit but may slip easily), square drive sockets, and perhaps if you are lucky a tap socket may fit as well. Ed...
