IWB (in the waist band) sheath

I haven’t posted knives in a while but wanted to share this twin sheath for twin knives. The customer wanted matching left right belt carry and also an IWB carry for the small of his back. This sheath is all the work of my brother with some input from the customer. Took him quite a while to work...

    Chef knife quandary

Thanks ahead of time for any advice. An engraver who made some rings for some clients now have the same clients asking for an engraved chef knife. He asked me to make the knife. He wants the spine area clayed so when I send the finished knife that part is not hardened. So a hamon is not the...

    Re heat treat 1095

I heat treated 1095 bar stock using my paragon. So temperature control was not the issue. Quenched in parks 50. Seemed to be hard with the file test so I did the two temper cycles. However, after doing some grinding, I now feel like it’s not hard as it should be. So I want to start over on the...

    A couple more

Two more pocket carry. I won’t post any more of these since it’s been a little redundant. Desert ironwood and sambar stag. CPM 154. 800 grit satin finish. Sambar knife is still in progress but is close to finished.

    Pocket carry

It’s the same size knife as the KITH knife I made—5.5”OAL, 2.5” blade. AEBL hollow grind, Amber sambar stag. Pocket carry. Finally, on my third attempt, I ground down the slab enough to leave some bark on. Still learning. Still enjoying it! As usual, the sheath is made by my brother.

A few finished up and some firsts

A few finished up in the last month and a half. Inspired by a couple knife makers I follow, I decided to play around with deep hollow grinds on a couple of these. The straight razorish looking knife is more of a utility knife made from scrap steel. It’s more for around the house kinda stuff...

    Week long project finished

Blade is 4 3/4” with OAL of 9”. Feather Damascus ( bought from a guy on IG), ringed gidgee handle. The blade is about 3/4” shorter than original design because a mistake forced me to grind down some length.

Not a KITH knife but same style

It’s the same as the KITH, 5.5 OAL, designed to be pocket carry. First time using the C-TEK handle material. It’s pretty light weight stuff. I like using it and was easier to work with than I suspected. Blade is 2.5” CPM154. Satin finish on handle and blade. A little file work.

    Hunter/skinner with amboyna

The OAL is 8 3/8 with the blade at 4 1/8. It’s CPM154 with 800 grit finish. I finished this today. I read a post somewhere in the last few days that mentioned knife scales from ‘mad scientist knife scales’. As it turns out, that is where I got these scales. Dyed and stabilized amboyna burl...

    MikeL and KITH WIP

I made the cut and am looking forward to participating in the KITH. For a couple days I’ve been thinking what to make. I’ve decided on a new knife I designed a couple weeks ago. The aim of the knife is to be small enough for pocket carry. I’ve made two. One for my brother who makes my sheaths...

    Stainless Metal fumes?

I’m using CPM 154 for the first time. (I’ve used 440c several times.) While drilling holes in two knives I had some fumes. I don’t wear a mask while drilling. I went from drilling to grinding out the profile ( I did put the mask on for grinding). I spent a couple hours grinding. Then went in the...

    Second and third Damascus knives

I would really like to make my own Damascus some day but for now I’m buying what others make. These two are Alabama damascus. The smaller one is 3.2” blade with black/blue carbon weave blue liner handle. About 7” OAL. The second is 4.2” blade. Afzelia bolster and black palm handle. About 8.2”...

    Another skinner, acid etched

Anothe skinner. Handle is macassar ebony with brass pins. This is about my fourth attempt at a Hamon on 1095. Going to try W2 next. The sheath made by my brother has real lizard skin insert. I think he does a great job. Thanks for looking.
