    Neo-Tribal Revisited....

I think at this point there are a lot of makers (dabblers or more professional) who are inspired by Neo-Tribal Metalsmithing without even knowing the term or the history. It has gone out into the world and become much more accepted than the old days.

    Howdy, from an old timer.....

Howdy, Dana! Good to see you around! :) Sorry to hear how bumpy the road has been for you and your wife. I appreciate the appreciation. :) Knifemaking is my full-time gig, both forged work and mid-techs. It certainly ain't the easy way to pay the bills! :D

    Giant carcass splitters of DOOM!!!

Thank y'all! tkroenlein - This is probably the practical limit for me to make by myself without a jib crane! :D Sean - Chances are pretty slim it would be anyone else. :)

    Giant carcass splitters of DOOM!!!

Howdy, folks. Been a busy, productive year, and not as much time has been spent on forums as I used to. But I have had a couple of interesting projects I wanted to share. They are the two largest carcass splitters I've made so far, one completed in February and one in August. The first was a...

Can i use 80crv2 for a hunting knife

Hey, guys, the New Jersey Steel Baron website now has their recommended HT schedule for all the alloys they sell. It's the one that I was forwarding to folks who e-mailed me. The one for 80CrV2 can be found here...

    Klingon fighting stick redo

Had a pretty decent show. I didn't sell out like last year, but that was my only sold out show and I don't expect to do that.

    Klingon fighting stick redo

I like both renditions. The original looks more Klingon-ish to me. What did you not like about it? The addition of the ring nut on the second go is a nice touch. :)

Most of half a year's worth of forged blades

The baby face didn't tip you off? Was it offset by the white hairs in the beard? :D The spare tire clutch on Gunnhilda gives good control for a mechanical hammer. And she doesn't have excessively high beats per minute, while hitting fairly hard due to the mass of the ram, so you have time to...

Most of half a year's worth of forged blades

20 years ago I was a senior in high school. :D I'd guess around 2010. If I can ever scrape the cash together, I'll upgrade to some form of air hammer, but at the moment any extra cash is going into the mid-tech line.

Most of half a year's worth of forged blades

Raymond - Oh yes, Gunnhilda. She's built from junk, she breaks down at the most inopportune moments, but she has made a lot of blades through the years. I still use her every time I forge a blade. My cousin did most of the work to build her with my guidance on design (although he had...

Most of half a year's worth of forged blades

It's been a busy year, and difficult to keep up with everything. Here's some of what I've been building. It's all 80CrV2 steel with various cord wraps impregnated with marine epoxy and sheathed in Boltaron. I like to focus on getting geometry, balance, and ergonomics right without playing...
