AO??? Never heard of it. Couldn't find any on-line. Do you have a pic of the raw product? Packaging? I have Starrett O1 in small sheet form and it makes great knives...for an outdated, non-boutique, vintage product.

My guess, without seeing a picture, is that it's a chrome plated carbon steel. Case was well known for doing this back in the day.

During WWII, Cattaraugus made a folding pilot's survival knife/machete, but I cannot recall seeing a folding full-size Bowie like I think you're describing.

Ironwood. Looks like a Mexican tourist piece. They worked it while it was wet (not properly dried) and over the years cracks developed. I pick em up at yard sales and thrift stores for pennies on the dollar...seals, whales, saguaro cacti, pelicans, owls, all sorts of shapes.

Finished up this little O1 necker with some ironwood scales and finally got some progress on a W2 hamon I worked up last year.

This mark is 3/4" long and 5/16" tall overall.
