    Extinction!

Frame handle that I continue to play with. Soooooo many mistakes, but got past them. I’m keeping this one for testing and ideas. I change it daily! Lol. steel from Baker Forge, copper everything, and mammoth ivory scales. Frame is 1084 as it was all I had the correct thickness. Vote for...

    Cheap Gift Knife

I have this 12 year old boy that comes every Sunday at church to show me his latest knife purchase. They are usually the 7 dollar flipper type. I decided to make him one as a surprise and have been tinkering with it for a while. Keeping costs down by using 1084, mild steel, and elk antler...

    First Knife Request

Someone wanted a Bill Bagwell inspired knife after the Hells Belle concept. I came up with this. This is the rough fit, but it will not look much different, other than the Damascus will etch darker. This was just a test dip at 120 grit. The copper was colored and will wear to a two tone...

    Alamo Tribute Bowie

I am finally ready to glue this up and pin it. Been months in the making, but landed on finishes I like. Did not want flawless details, which I may not be capable of anyway, but wanted some rustic aspects with quality? Not sure that is worded correctly. 18 inches overall. It is Alabama...

    Sambar, bronze, and hamon

Still in progress, but I can never wait! Sanded to 600 grit. There is a hamon in there and I will etch once I get it to 1500 grit. Decided to leave the Sambar untouched. The addiction continues.

    WIP Texas Bowie

The blade is not done, but hopefully getting supplies in this week to finish it. Jumped ahead to start darkening all the pieces. Not a final finish, but just making sure it will look OK. The shiny stuff is Damascus. I will also darken the stag back once finished shaping. More and better...

    Jen-Ken

Seems all the talk is about Evenheat and Paragon, but the Jen-Ken vertical air bath kilns seem ideal. Am I missing something? Talk me off the cliff or I am ordering this week.

    Couple more getting close

Was going to glue up today, but wasn’t feeling it. Maybe tonight. I call them Bowie brothers. 9 inch blade in all Damascus fittings with ironwood. Same for the 5 inch blade except with African Blackwood. All pieces from same billet of ADS. Going to build a double sheath for them and keep...

    Couple of wips

Medium and small Bowie’s being born. All Damascus components except for copper inserts. They will get fileworked and shaped soon. Trying to finish three knives in a week versus 1 in three weeks.

    10 Inch Damascus Bowie

Alabama Damascus blade and spacer, with copper guard and double dyed maple burl. Most things went as planned, and sone didn’t! Lol. Took my time and did not move ahead with flaws. It ain’t perfect, but skills are improving.

    Glutton for punishment!

First Damascus bought from The Alabama folks. Could be an expensive mess if it doesn’t work out!

All done! First peened tang and makers mark!

1095 with 5 inch cutting edge. Stainless guard and pommel. Amber dyed stag handle with micarta. Loving it. Still getting better.

    Getting close on this one.

Still needs hand sanding and etching. Was not sure if I wanted to peen the tang or thread it. Still debating. Rough fit looking good.

    Finally got this one done

Lots learned and finally can do things with a variable speed grinder! Gonna be awesome going forward. This one cracked on the quench and I had to grind it out. Still had a small crack but I had gotten ahead and had fitted the guard and handle. Finished it out knowing it is flawed, but just...

    Hack for filing around stag

I have seen this before and really like the look. In have a nice piece of stag and did not want to cut it again, so could not add anymore length and went for the small piece of stainless. I can get really close, but how do you get it spot on? First try and pleased with it. Also had a design...
