    Santoku #7

This is the 7th Santoku style knife I have made for a family of chefs in Canada. Hand forged 1084FG, OAL 11-1/2", blade 6-3/4", curly maple handle. Not my usual style, but a nice change of pace. Thanks for looking.

    Finally making knives again!

Took about 4 months off the knife making after smacking the burn out wall. Spent the summer teaching a new knife maker and pursuing other interests. Here is my latest batch. Still have to etch the blades and make sheaths. Spent about 8 hours last week forging the next batch. It feels...

    Personal Update

Been a while since I posted anything. This past March i hit the burn out wall and it was all I could do to finish a group of knives for a collector. I have always wanted a flint lock rifle, so I took the plunge. Ordered a kit that was in the style of J. Dickert, circa 1775. I jumped in with...

    Frozen Waterfall

It's been so unusually cold here that for the first time the waterfall in my garden pond is iced over. The water is still flowing under the ice. Each morning I pour boiling water near the stream to keep an open spot to let the gasses out.

    Latest Rescued Animal

I found a dog that had been left behind by some people that moved out of a rental house near me. They moved out last Thursday and I found him Saturday, almost dead. They left him chained outside with no food and his water dish was frozen solid. That brings our total of rescues to 4 dogs and 4...

    Trying Something New

Been trying some new things. A poured pewter ferrule on the knife. A deer rawhide covered sheath with bead work. With my old eyes and fingers, the sheath took some time to complete. The bead work could be better, but for a first try, I am a bit proud of it. It was kind of tough working the beads...

    Rawhide Questions?

I want to start covering some sheaths in rawhide and need to place an order for some stock. I welcome any input. Sources? Weight? Bleached or natural? I have seen some short tutorials on rawhide sheaths and I wonder if there is a book(s) on the subject. Thanks for your time.

    Hot Blade Straightener

I have been using cheap wood mallets to do the final straightening of hot blades when forging. The main problem is they are to light. Been brain storming for a few months and here's what I come up with. The materials I used were: 2"x2"x3/16" square tube 2" long 3/4"x9" sch 40 black pipe...
