New to knife making and first knife

Nice - I dig your DIY filing jig. Very clever. Is that just yellow mustard you used for etching?

Yeah - Nice lines on that one!

    Forged knife #2

Good job! Nice lines on that one, it looks like it would feel nice in the hand. That gentle curve overall from tip to back.

    How to finish Ultrex Suretouch?

Wow - what a perfect sanding job on that handle... the "terrain" contours of the laminated G10 material is almost perfectly symmetrical fwd and aft of the middle "hump". Very Nice! -andy

    Von Gruff

I remember him and wondered how things were going for him in NZ a year or so ago when they were all in an uproar banning legally owned semiautomatic rifles. I seem to recall some of his hunting photos showed them using AR platforms and wondering if he was going to have to turn them in. And...

What's going on in your shop?

Nice! Looks like it was inspired by the Danielsson reels! (My other passion is flyfishing so I recognized the triangular frame). Andy

    Knife ID

It's a cool looking profile for sure. That handle looks like it would be super secure to hold (assuming the user's hand was the right size). Andy

My attempt at Randy's "Cub" pattern

A couple years back Randy Lucius was kind enough to post up a template for his Cub pattern to share with the forum. I thought it was such a cool profile, I quickly printed it off and made a template but couldn't find time to actually build the knife. So I finally found some time last week and...

    Sawing Desert Iron Wood?

Well this is a bit embarrassing, but I finally took a closer look at my bandsaw and was shocked when I pulled out the insert. I was just going to measure it's diameter and thickness in hopes of fabbing or buying a replacement and couldn't believe how bent up and distorted this one already was...

    Sawing Desert Iron Wood?

Thanks Sean and John. I'm not sure what went wrong, but I'll take another look at the set up. I'm wondering if something went haywire with the insert in the table (the round disc that surrounds the blade) such that the work piece dropped / tilted down causing the tooth at the top of the work...

    Sawing Desert Iron Wood?

Hey folks, I've never worked with DIW but finally picked up a pair of scales to use on my latest knife project. The scales are .50" thick which is much thicker than I need, so I had the brilliant idea of re-sawing one scale into two ~1/4" scales which would be sufficient for the smaller knife...
