Hot Shot or Evenheat which one

I don't like the vertical design for knives. Hanging a blade doesn't interest me.

Hot Shot or Evenheat which one

I actually built 2 both from a garage sale $10 toaster oven. Add another 30 for PID & SSR controller. I plan to use my current HT oven for tempering once I get the new oven. Going to try to sell the others. Just starting to get to much stuff laying around.

Hot Shot or Evenheat which one

I built my own tempering oven, SSR, PID controller loop. Holds 450 F plus or minus 3 degrees. But I'd rather spend my time making knives not the oven.

Hot Shot or Evenheat which one

My current oven is a 120 volt, 14" Knife Dawgs from Paragon. Being 120 volts doing a HT on stainless is questionable. If I do a fillets .040 or chef's .100 thick i'm ok. But move up to .130 thick getting a good HT is questionable. Nothing against Paragon but $$$$$

Hot Shot or Evenheat which one

I'm looking to upgrade to a 240 volt oven. So far I've narrowed it down to either a Hotshot or an Evenheat. Any suggestions pros or cons of either, or first hand experience. Thanks for your input

Foil wrapped Stainless & Baby powder

I have 2 regulators on my tig welder, one is used to purge SS pipe for food grade welds. I'm not sure how I'm going to do it yet, but I'm thinking I'd have the blade in the pouch with it sealed on 3 sides. Stick a small hose into the pouch and turn on the argon and slowly pull the hose out and...

Foil wrapped Stainless & Baby powder

I read somewhere where baby powder helps reduce discoloring. I figured I'd give it a try to save some time in finishing.

Foil wrapped Stainless & Baby powder

Yesterday I heat treated 2 14c28n blades. Both wrapped in 309 both in the same oven for the same amount of time. I lightly coats one blade with baby powder before putting it in the foil pouch. The bottom blade had the baby powder. Can't say one came out of the pouch easier but clean up will...

Here's one I just finished. The handle is egg shells embedded in a clear epoxy. Plans were to make this a very patriot build and paint the sheath Red, White & Blue. Unfortunately 2 of the 3 colors were bad, so here's how it ended up. I do have to say the picture doesn't do the handle justice.

    What to charge for sharpening

What do you guys charge to sharpen knives that you did not make? I've done a few for customers who have bought a knife from me and didn't charge for it. The other day a guy dropped of 12 to get sharpened and I'm having a hard time deciding what to charge. Is $5 per blade out of the question...

    Tooln's Knife Gallery

Here's a set that was picked up today. A guy I use to work with had them made for his son & grandson who is 13. The grandson shot his first bear this year. The handles are made from the bears leg bone & have a shot gun shell embedded in the end. The display was made to hold both knives and when...
