Pry tab on handle of full tang blade-Bad idea?

Really good idea. This is what I'm planning to do. I talked to him and mentioned that it's really a poor idea to use a knife as a pry tool. he agreed. I will redraw, extending the tang past the scales and use corby's as well. Thanks for the advice!

Pry tab on handle of full tang blade-Bad idea?

I build knives in my spare time for friends & family. Im looking to build a blade for a machinist friend. It would be an EDC blade he would use while at work. when I sent him a photo of my suggested design, he asked if it was possible to add a Pry-Tab off the handle end. Is this even a good idea...

    AEB-L steel, pro's/con's

I'm looking to buy some steel for some projects and I've heard AEB l steel mentioned in some video ive watched. It's for sale on the USA knifemakers side of this site, it seems to be a bit cheaper per foot than other stock. A few google searches have been mostly positive. Is anyone using AEB...

    drill bits for tang holes

Having read the comments, I have a set of Viking bits now, but the last thing to check was my stock (1095) I don't think it was sufficiently annealed. With the next piece of 1095 (from the same batch) I used, I put it into my little forge and cooled it down as slow as I could, That made it FAR...

    Makers Mark Stencils Comparison

Can I ask what format you sent your artwork in? My experience getting a stencil made using Martronics (echo-matic), was fine. I emailed them a word Doc with stencil art copy/Pasted in 2 sizes and also the Photoshop files; and I believe that they simply burned a sheet of stencils from the word...

Epoxy choice for File pattern on edge

I'm looking to try filing a pattern into the edge of a blade I'm working on. Question: I'm thinking of dying the epoxy black to highlight the pattern, with the epoxy polish up as I finish the handle? I'm currently using Devcon 2 ton epoxy, but I'm open to other suggestions.

    drill bits for tang holes

This is great information, I will check to see what my drill press speed is at. the comment from BillyO - "You do not want your drill bit to rub. This can cause “work hardening.” To keep your drill bit from rubbing you need a little higher feed rate or more pressure. If you’re not making a...

    drill bits for tang holes

I could use some advice from the group collective here. I'm having some trouble finding a set of drill bits that will cut more than one hole. I'm using Tap Magic, a Delta drill press, and a vice when possible, but in 1095 steel, they seem to dull the bit halfway thru 3/16ths steel. I talked...

    Stacked Leather Hunter

As a newbie knife maker, Im working on my first stacked leather handle right now, glad I came here for some insight! I've never heard of dunking the handle in Polyurethane. That's something I will keep in mind when I start shaping the handle. question: would thinning the poly with some Mineral...

    Super glue handle finish

OK, thanks for the advice! I agree the thin CA sets up really fast, but can take quite a while to get it thick enough to sand. if the thick stuff it takes over-night or cracks, that's not a time saver at all. Thanks!

    Super glue handle finish

I've been making knives as a hobby for a few years now, slowly getting better; mostly just enjoying myself in the shop during Covid. I have a campknife that I'm in the process of putting a super glue finish on, but Im using a Slo-Zap CA glue that I picked up at a hobby store. The glue is quite...
