    Solder/braze free Habaki

Since I pretty much suck at soldering/brazing I was looking for an easier way to make a habaki. This is what I came up with. A blade is more or less a flattened circle. Sooo measure the flats on the blade; in the case of my dagger there are four flats. Each flat is .625. .625x4= 2.5 which...

    Golden ratio

I am posting links explaining the "Golden ratio" that Mark was talking about. If you stick to these simple rules your preportions will always be in harmony with each other. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_ratio http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=golden+mean&qpvt=golden+mean&FORM=IGRE

    I want your opinions

Gentlemen this is a WIP. The parts are just dry fitted together. Still eyeballing everything. The blade is 1 1/2x8". The 1/4" thick NS guard in still in the preform stage. Haven't quite figured out where I want to go with it. I am leaning toward the opinion that the ricasso is still...

Blades were tested in criminals & corpses

    I need help

I am starting to make a sheath for this WIP. I can already easily see that upswept point in going to cut into the sheath along the top along the spine. Do I put a very thin SS U shaped channel inside along the spine or are there better ways to solve the problem? The sheath will be one piece...

    Which one

I have another knife in the works & would welcome some input. Which guard or neither? The material is twist pattern damascus & the file work piece is NS. I'm also thinking the ricasso is too long & I need to shorten it. Does the Golden Ratio (golden ratio = 1.618033990) apply to the ricasso...

    Coffin Box bowie FINISHED

Finally finished her. My first bowie attempt. I don't know if I will make a sheath or a display case or both. She weights in at 1lb 14 oz. Blade ATS 34 RC60. 1/4" thick 10 1/2" long x 2" wide. Copper & nickel silver liner. I made the guard from a 420 layer (if I remember correctly) twist...

    Drawing twice question

We hardened & tempered my bowie blade (ATS 34). Tempered once at 375 for 2 hrs. then air cool. It now rockwells at 60. Data sheet called for another draw, 275 degrees for another 2 hours. Is this needed? How much lower will that second draw pull the rockwell down?

    Bowie in the works

Well I wanted to make a bowie with a 2" wide blade. I've gotten to this point so far & my fingers are sore from grinding & sanding that wide blade. :pinch: I only have it sanded with 80 grit in a slurry of honing oil (helps the paper cut much better). The steel is ATS34 & the blade is 10 1/2"...
