Self Made Knives

Well-Known Member
One year ago this week was my daughter's 10th birthday. I had only made one knife before this one and that one was all by hand. I had just finished building a 2x72 and this little knife for my daughter was my first knife off a grinder. Like everything I seem to do, it took me right up the day before her birthday to finish it and I just put in an old generic sheath.

Fast forward to this year, her 11th birthday and I since I've recently delved into leather work, now was the time to make a sheath for her. The knife would fall out of the little generic one. She also requested that I make it a little sharper now that she was older, so I did. Now I'm worried about her cutting herself. Since I never really took any pics of it, here's a few with its new sheath. Only my 3rd leather sheath and this sucker was so little it gave me fits.

Thanks guys, I gave it back to her last night and she was very happy. Funny, she's been watching me I guess because the first thing she tried was to see if it would shave!

That's my girl!!! She knows how to check a knife for sharp - and 11 yr old, she can handle a sharp knife just fine. Of course she'll wind up nicking herself, but that's how we learn how to handle sharp knives..... and I'm still learning how to handle sharp knives {g}
