Well I got my package from S. Africa yesterday! I ordered a few smaller Bargain Bin and Spacer pieces to use as spacers or bolsters on some kitchen knives. I also picked up 1 Wildebeast bone and 5 Zebra bones!
Smaller pieces, I have another thicker blue one that I forgot to get a pic of:
Wildebeast bone:
Zebra Bones:
I cut up one of the more orangey ones to see what it was like in the middle.
As you can see, even when you flatten them out to remove the hollow core, you still have a decent thickness left for a handle or bolster and you don't lose much width. I will probably use some of these for ferrules and others for the middle of a Wa type handle and with a bolster/butt cap. They feel good in the hand as is, so I may do up a stick tang style hunting knife or two as well. It will also work to leave the hollow section and do a bolster in front of the bone handle. Lots of options here!! These pieces have all been stabilized and many have been dyed. Stabilizing looks to be pretty nice and the bones are heavy and dense.
It took 7 or so days to process the order. Ordered on the 26th or 27th of March, tag says it was mailed on the 3rd, first tracking showed up on the 5th when it left S. Africa, arrived in US Customs on the 8th, and was at my house on the 9th. Not too shabby!!! Definitely ordering more pieces in the future!!
