Buffer speed for blades

I am wondering what speed buffer most people use 1750 , or 3600. I am using 1750 , but just not getting the finish i want . By the way i use green compound and finish up with pink no scratch. Thanks , Scott

I have always feared buffers. If I am working on a knife (or anything else) the thing just tries to tear it out of my hands and throw it back at me. Reciently Rod Nielsen sent me a disk with a disk of bathroom mat glued on. It is simply amazin'. It works like a buffer but doesn't throw things at you. Try it, you'll like it.

Since you're asking which shaft speed is better, keep in mind that the proper wheel size (matched to a given shaft speed) is the more important factor.
