clay heat treating

i would like to try clay heattreating a a blade. what kind of clay do i use.

gary theres alot out there but i use furnace cement that you get at true value works good easy to get rated at 2700 dagrees, some even make there own.

Furnace cement works fine for me. You can use satanite, that's what I originally used but the furnace cement is easier to source at hardware or big box stores. Good luck.

make sure you have it even on both sides or its gonna warp

you can do a cut out of cardboard and use it on both sides to get even and when applying make sure its of even thickness good luck
