diamond farrier rasp file

I was looking at ebay for rasp files and came on some old diamond rasp files. I have made knives from nicholson farrier rasp files before. Are the old diamond files good for making knives as well as the nicholson files?

It would be hard to know without doing a hardness test and that would be hard to do without one in hand. I can't imagine a farrier worth his salt using a case hardened rasp but stranger things have happened.

Like the old carnie used to say, ya pays yo money and takes yo chances.

Is it "diamond" or "Black Diamond"? If its black diamond then it dosent get any better. They are something like 1095 with added carbon. Around 1.27% carbon..
Diamond brand farrier rasps are on the low end of farrier tools. I wouldent bet on them being quaility steel..

Thanks for the info. I'll stick to finding the 17.5 nicholson files which I have had good knives out of them.
